December 9, 2020

“Open Forest” 9-4 pm

View in a browser

The Scott River Watershed Council (SRWC), will be hosting a field event to demonstrate the production of biochar at three different scales: Using a conservation pile burn, a Ring of Fire portable kiln, and a Tigercat 6050 Carbonator. This field day will allow the opportunity to see forest fuel reduction biomass transformed into biochar.

There will be three presentations to explain the benefits and challenges of biochar production and application at 10:00-11:00am, 12:30-1:30pm, and 2:00-3:00pm, in order to minimize large crowds.  Additionally, the requirement for masks and self distancing will be mandatory. You are also welcome to come by at another time during the day, from 9:00am to 4:00pm, and talk with SRWC staff onsite.

Biochar is a more stable form of carbon, produced through pyrolysis, to transform waste biomass into a soil amendment that can help retain water and nutrients in the soil as well as sequester carbon.
