Good Fire Symposium Day 1 – Speaker Series
April 20th and 21st, 2024, in Willow Creek at our 111 Mayfair Street Headquarters, and Beebe Ranch. Hosted by the Lower Trinity PBA.
Willow Creek, CA. March, 2024 – The Lower Trinity River Prescribed Burn Association (LTRPBA) is excited to announce the inaugural Good Fire Symposium, set to take place on April 20th and 21st, 2024, at 111 Mayfair Street Headquarters and Beebe Ranch in Willow Creek. This event is a significant step forward in our Lower Trinity communities’ collective efforts to promote sustainable land management and wildfire prevention practices.
The symposium will focus on the use of prescribed fire, with an emphasis on integrating traditional indigenous fire practices. We are honored to have Margo Robbins, Executive Director of the Cultural Fire Management Council and Yurok Tribal Member, and Alice Lincoln-Cook, Executive Director and Chair of the California Indian Basketweavers Association and Karuk Tribal Member, as our featured speakers. Their expertise and perspectives are invaluable to our discussions on native-led approaches to fire management. Rounding out the speaker series will be Cleo Woelfle-Hazard and Henri Holbrook from UC Cooperative Extensions Fire Advisor program.
April 21st, weather permitting on the day following the symposium, we will hold a Field Day at the historic Beebe Ranch, owned by Yurok Tribal Member Debb Beebe. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in understory burning of 10 acres (pre-treated through the Humboldt FLASH program in 2022), applying the concepts discussed during the symposium in a practical setting. Additional support will be provided by hand crews from Wailaki Tribal Members, Sherwood Valley Pomo Tribal Members, Yurok Fire, Hoopa Fire, as well as the CalPoly Humboldt Good Fire Club.
Lower Trinity PBA is committed to making this event inclusive and accessible to all, reflective of our dedication to full spectrum community engagement. The symposium is free to attend, and we encourage participation from all interested parties. Ample amounts of PPE and hand tools will be available with generous support from our Humboldt County Prescribed Burn Association partners. The Symposium represents an important opportunity for collaboration and understanding between diverse groups, addressing historical challenges and reticence in the region while continuing to promote a unified approach to fire management.

About Lower Trinity River Prescribed Burn Association:
The Lower Trinity River Prescribed Burn Association (LTRPBA) is a non-profit organization focused on using prescribed fire as a tool for land management and wildfire prevention. This includes objectives of enhancing ecosystem health, protecting communities from the threat of wildfires, promoting the use of cultural fire management practices, and fostering collaboration among landowners, community members, local tribal governments and cultural fire practitioners, fire departments, federal and state agencies, and other organizational stakeholders to manage and restore fire-adapted ecosystems. The LTRPBA’s efforts are aimed at creating a resilient and healthy landscape in eastern Humboldt and western Trinity counties, contributing to full spectrum environmental and community well-being.
