CLIMATE SCIENCE SYMPOSIUM FOR THE NORTH COAST REGION

Workshop Description:

California’s Climate Change Assessments contribute to the scientific foundation for understanding climate-related vulnerability at the local scale and informing resilience action, while also supporting State policies, plans, and programs to safeguard California from climate change. The Fourth Assessment includes reports for nine regions of the state, including climate impacts and adaptation solutions for the North Coast Region. This public workshop will share findings from the Fourth Assessment and provide an opportunity for interactive dialogue and information sharing to support local climate change action. The objectives of the workshop are to:

Share information and outcomes from the Fourth Climate Assessment as well as other local government, Tribal, state, federal and academic climate change information resources
Identify opportunities to align and leverage state climate objectives with local funding needs
Gather input from stakeholders on knowledge gaps, capacity limitations, and other barriers to climate action
Share tools available to assist local communities in understanding climate vulnerabilities, achieving regulatory compliance, and improving grant competitiveness. Elicit feedback on those tools, as well as additional resources needed to make climate science and planning resources actionable

SESSION 3: INFORMATION GAPS AND BARRIERS TO CLIMATE ADAPTATION

Interactive Break-Out Sessions: technical, financial, and capacity-related barriers and strategies.
